Free Osime Brown!

Osime Brown

Teenage, British, black, autistic
Prosecuted by the Crown
Against the evidence, convicted
- Free, oh free him: Osime Brown

From care to care, from place to place
Twenty-eight times moved around
Neglected, let down, failed, displaced
- Free, oh free him: Osime Brown

Fearing exile to Jamaica
Left at four, it's unknown ground
Prison cell a spirit breaker

Stop SEND cuts!

This is my proposing speech for TUC Disabled Workers’ Committee’s emergency motion calling for action to stop cuts to funding for kids with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Several trade unions’ delegates spoke in support of the motion, which was passed unanimously.

Conference, I am going to tell you:

The Strike Train

... with a nod to W.H.Auden's The Night Train ...

This is the rhythm of wheel along steel
It's the soothing and comfort that passengers feel
From the safety of knowing the doors only close
When the guard says it's ready, that's when the train goes

Tell Me Jeremy

Tell me Jeremy, with lives at stake
Aren't doctors safer when they're awake?
Would you have surgery from a doc
Who's been on duty round the clock?

Tell me Jeremy, tell me why
You seem to think that you can buy
Our doctors' lives, and their assent
For pieces of silver, a few per cent?

Island Dancers

Written in support of RMT's campaign to stop the (SNP) Scottish government privatising the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry services:

Our Cally Mac's for sale
Public service coffin's nail
We'll nae let fares go skywards
- Pirates!

Piranhas 'neath the waves
Lurk hungry in the caves
We've seen your profit figures
- Gold diggers!
