Live Poets Society and Friends are going ahead with our radical poetry night on Monday May 4th ! Another first for us – the entire event will be online! There are several themes to write on – May 4th is Star Wars Day, May Day is also Workers Day, plus you may have noticed a global pandemic doing the rounds…please feel free to choose any of these, or even a nifty combination of all three, or indeed whatever other issue takes your fancy.
Depending on how many poets we have, we shall be running the evening from 7pm to 9pm with a short break. Our guest poet will be the amazing Janine Booth, National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) activist and neurodiversity champion. She has just launched, with the legendary Attila the Stockbroker, the book ‘Coronaverses: Poems from the Pandemic’ with poems selected from thousands submitted. We are also hoping to feature Mike Jenkins and the Red Poets from Merthyr. Mike has just published ‘Onward/Ymlaen!’ an anthology of Welsh radical poetry.
To perform live, you will need to tell us in advance, and will need to have downloaded the Zoom App. It’s a white camera on a blue background, it’s free and it’s easy to operate. If you want to perform, you will need a code which we will put on the Live Poets chat group on the day. If you are not in the chat group please message Tim Evans or this page. The event will also be live-streamed on Facebook so if you’re not performing on Zoom you’ll be able to watch it there.
It’s going to be a great night! We will see you all online on Monday May 4th at 7pm! Broadcast live from our Facebook page and this event page.
May the Fourth Be With You!
